UOWN are proud to present our first charity project to be part of a push to build 250 homes in Malawi. UOWN has committed to building 5 homes and will need to raise £25,000 to help deliver the project.

We will use the power of the crowd and the power of the UOWN platform to deliver the target raise to a national charity partner on the ground in Malawi that has been active since 2006. We are proudly partnered up with Disasters and Emergencies Committee member Islamic Relief, a UK registered charity organisation active in 100 countries around the world. They are experts in delivering lasting projects for positive change and in 2017 assisted over seven million people thanks to the generosity of donors who gave the organisation £126 million in 2017 alone.

At UOWN we care about homes especially people being able to access homes, which is why it was important to us that we are involved in this charity project in Malawi. Malawi is a beautiful country filled with people that have some of the warmest smiles you will ever see, that is despite 7 in 10 people living on less than £1.40 a day. As you can imagine the quality of homes that most people in Malawi live in is very poor, something that became very apparent in 2015 after rains and floods lashed the country displacing 200,000 people, these people had to move into makeshift camps, and many of them have since found it hard to find adequate accommodation.

This is where we can step in a meaningful way, we can help to build homes for those that need it most in a country that needs help, and for those that know UOWN and our business, we care about giving people access to property.

UOWN has pledged to build 5 homes. Each home will be constructed to a relatively high level costing £5000 per house. Where possible local labour will be used, to provide jobs for the local economy. The recipients of the homes will be decided by our charity partner on the ground, however, families with a female head of the house, sick and elderly households will be prioritised ensuring that those who need a place to call home most will be able to access one.

We believe in this project and the positive impact it will have once completed, so much so that we are going to pound match every donation made by the crowd. That means whatever you donate we will donate too.

Ultimately, with your kind generosity we are going to put a roof over the heads of five families in Malawi, not world-changing by any means, but life-changing for those five families.

Thank you for your kindness.
